What was odd about the residency was that Joe, one half of ISC (Marie being the other) was unaware that I had been following their Instagram account since their original iteration as a outdoor hangout somewhere in London. It was one of the first accounts followed through the app’s recommendation. I refuse to eat anyone else’s plantain and roti having tried Marie’s.
The pieces were made in A2 and with the Pentel brush pen/workhorse. The highlight of production was the fun with White-out. In digital, it’s not as tangible but I think Clowes said once that ink and white-out/gouache results in a battle between black and white. ditto. The pieces are mock 50’s comics covers covering Romance, Sci-fi and Hard boiled fiction. It was a decent slog producing each one in a day’s work, the tight turnaround contributing to sticking with the surreal choices made even for me.
